SUMFEST: Celebrating Reggae and Dancehall with Art

Since the Summer of 1993, SUMFEST has been the largest festival grounds dedicated to reggae and dancehall music. This year, the vibrant celebration will be complemented by an extraordinary visual tribute—a 1500-foot-long mural known as the "Wall of Fame." This mural, painted by 13 renowned mural artists, will feature iconic reggae and dancehall musicians, bringing the music's energy and spirit to life through art.

The mural artists contributing to this masterpiece hail from various corners of the globe:

This monumental project marks the completion of Phase 4 of the mural, adding another layer of cultural richness to SUMEFEST. Join us in Montego Bay, Howard Cooke Hwy, in the Parish of St. James, to experience the fusion of music and art at SUMFEST 2024.

This mural has undoubtedly given Montego Bay and Howard Cooke Hwy new life. To the east stands the elegant "Welcome to Montego Bay" sign, a popular photo spot for thousands daily. The mural infuses new energy into the area, while further west, the "Welcome to Negril" sign adds to the iconic landmarks. These signs not only enhance the respective spaces but also play a significant role in showcasing Jamaica as a vibrant, entertaining, and creative tourism destination.

Mr. Dyer, a former director of Summerfest Productions, and previous owners of Reggae Sumfest, shares that the mural and signs are integral to promoting Jamaica's cultural and artistic appeal.

“This is a thing of beauty which surely enhances the space. Well done to the persons and organization behind this very attractive piece of creativity. I am eagerly anticipating the completion of this masterpiece,” says Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Richard Vernon.
